Ongoing challenges faced by refugees coming to Canada
If we could remove the barriers to employment and business opportunities that Canadians and immigrants face, and move to a fees-for-service system rather than a society based around taxation-provided services, then all of that would lead to refugees being more welcome in Canada. A liberty-oriented society in other words.
Canada urges Zimbabwe to respect press freedom
"Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Bernier on Thursday called on Zimbabwe to respect freedom of the press following the arrest in Harare of two foreign journalists covering the country's elections."
Maybe this is a helpful statement to make (unless it is leading to an interventionist policy towards Zimbabwe's affairs), but the focus is always on other country's violations of rights and never on improving individual rights here in Canada.
Privacy czar probes alleged Net hack by officials
"Canada's privacy office is looking into allegations that federal human-rights investigators tapped into an unwitting woman's Internet connection to post messages on white supremacist websites, a spokesman said Friday."
"...The allegations arise out of long-running hate hearings before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal involving Toronto resident Mark Lemire."
