I enjoyed reading this book years ago before I knew anything about MKUltra and LSD research.
There are (at least) two sides of this story that I’m interested in.
Dr. Hoffer’s information is rationally presented and positive towards the needs and rights of patients. I think it’s probably very helpful overall for those affected by schizophrenia. It’s worth following up on the experiences and research presented in this book concerning naturopathic or orthomolecular nutritional therapies (food allergies, niacin deficiency, and so on).
On the other hand, Hoffer repeatedly mentions the use of LSD in Canada for psychiatric research during the 1950s. So I would like to know more about what happened and who supplied the LSD.
There are other famous people, elite names, and confusing debates or issues that appear when you look into this subject. I have some additional reading to do on this. I’m sure others are already aware of some of the details.
Maybe we can untangle this information that mainstream medicine and mainstream media has neglected, so that we can make sense of it and benefit from it.
The more recent “Professional Edition” has the references in the back. There is a shorter book on the same topic also listed below:
