Message to Live8 Social Democratic Imperialists: Let Africans be Independent! (June 26, 2005)
Note as of 2014: I wouldn’t use the term “capitalism” now in a positive sense, because I have to explain the specific meaning each time. What I meant was “free enterprise,” and that’s not what we live under. “Capitalism” and “socialism” in the real sense (not the naive sense) are two sides of the same coin–by design.
Blair, Geldof talk about Africa ahead of summit (http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/L/Live_8/2005/06/30/1112598-ap.html)
Canoe.ca, July 1 ’05 Live8 Concerts
The Commission for Africa report, to which Geldof contributed, calls for international communities to double foreign aid to Africa to $50 billion US, work toward 100-per-cent debt-cancellation for poor countries and make fighting AIDS a priority
First off, these rock stars are the kind of people I want to like. I admire Bob Geldof’s charity efforts with his 1985 Live Aid concert. I’m also a big fan of Bono of U2, or I used to be anyway. Too bad!
Geldof complains, “Too often I agree with him [Blair] and we are supposed to be on rock television.”
Yes, rock stars and the leaders of powerful nations are kissing up to each other on a daily basis now.
On Saturday [July 1], Geldof will oversee the Live 8 concerts taking place around the world to raise awareness of African poverty.
Geldof “aims to press leaders of rich G8 countries to relieve the burden of impoverished Africans.”
Why G8 leaders? Do they have so much money of their own? No, of course not. They are going to take the money from their own people – Canadians for example – in order to perpetuate African welfare dependency and to benefit corrupt foreign dictators. That is very “generous” of “us”. Oh, I’m sure there will be conditions. They will make sure that the African nations have elections that generate compliant pro-Western leaders who have unlimited powers to confiscate property like Western governments. That’s what I think their intention is anyway, and I hope – for Africa’s sake – it fails.
Saint Tony Blair, the man who participated in the Iraq deception and aggression, heads “to Gleneagles, Scotland, where he will try to nudge G8 leaders toward agreement on an agenda to lift Africa out of poverty..”
Blair and these guys think they’re God, but God himself could not lift Africans out of poverty. Only Africans can do this if they are ever left alone to determine their own futures. As long as they receive aid from Western governments – and the dependency and loving interference that goes along with it – well, things might only get worse.
OK, let’s see if we can get this straight. These wealthy rock stars are wealthy because they practice CAPITALISM, but they advocate SOCIALISM as a means to relieve African poverty! This is how they plan to make “poverty history”? If they were serious about relieving African poverty, they would advocate capitalism for Africa. It works (in a limited form) for Canadians and Americans. If it didn’t work, Canadians wouldn’t be asked to give their money to charity, or to “give” extra foreign aid via government spending. And we certainly wouldn’t have so much extra money to go to these concerts run by confused capitalists who believe in socialism!
These rock stars want to make Canadians poorer by forcing us to pay more taxes to our governments in order to generate more welfare payments to Africa. They could be asking us for money, that would be fine and legitimate ,and we could all make our own decisions. But instead they want to “go over our heads” to ask our tax-collectors for money!
They believe in tax collection and they believe in the redistribution of wealth by force. That makes them socialists. Capitalism has worked very well for them!! But it’s not for us poor ordinary bastards – OH NO! We are mere “greedy” Canadians and must not be allowed to keep our own money or make our own choices about what to do with it. And our political leaders like Paul Martin are as pure as the driven snow too!
And obviously they don’t want capitalism for Africans either, at least not the real kind, just the G8 kind! Oh no, not capitalism!
I bet that never even occurred to these rock stars to advocate PROPERTY RIGHTS for Africans! I agree that trade with Africa should be freed up – at least they are right about that. Speak out for economic freedom for Africa, why don’t you?
But why do they insist on selling – handing over – Africa to the G8? These rock stars are infatuated with power! Bowing and scraping, begging and hand-shaking. They apparently think the G8 leaders are sweet and pure. You think the G8 leaders and their buddies won’t find lots of benefits for themselves in Africa, lots of room for strategic maneuvering and military bases, lots of room for propaganda-supported “humanitarian intervention” whenever they need a war or two? And all their interference will produce nothing but good results? Yeah, sure…
Frankly I’m sick of the Government of Canada and other Western countries donating money that does not belong to them. Canadians were very generous in private donations to charity at the time of the Tsunami disaster, and then the government spoiled it and used my tax money for this purpose without my permission. How long will people put up with this? The government doesn’t mind, because these actions gain it power and status. But it costs Canadians tax-payers and we have no choice.
As to G8 summits, you know, frankly, I don’t want to see Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin shake Bush’s hand again until the U.S. government stops torturing prisoners. I don’t want to see Martin in the same room with war-mongers. He should be back at home, staying out of trouble, and he should pull our troops out of Afghanistan.
These G8 governments are all the heirs of world empires, and they have already made enough “contributions” to Africa. There have been more than enough wars in Africa created by Western and Russian imperialism and there has been more than enough Cold War backing of African dictatorships and opportunistic interventions. These “servants” of ours have a lot of high-and-mighty advice for all of us as they undermine our freedoms domestically. They want to spread all this good advice around globally too. I think we have seen enough of their preening and strutting at G8 summits. Their air of moral superiority is incredible.
