Note: this post was one of my efforts back in 2005 with my Libertarian Party involvement and other ideas for trying to make a difference. I don’t live in Toronto at present.

There must be some Canadians out there who have heard of Libertarianism by now and of websites like Antiwar.com.

Let’s try to start a regular libertarian group meeting in Toronto – I would like to start one in North East Scarborough – so that people can come and meet each other and talk about liberty. If you live outside the area, you may also be interested in creating a non-profit society – for example “The Canadian Society for Peace and Liberty” – with different chapters across Canada. Of course, feel free to “adopt” my idea anyway! 🙂

The purpose of this group would be to learn about libertarianism, to discuss books and current events, and to come up with ideas for activism. Everyone would have their say or ask questions and share their point of view. Some might decide they want to get involved with Libertarian political action too.

People of all backgrounds are welcome and you don’t have to agree with everything to join – just be sympathetic to the ideals of peace and liberty. …

Libertarianism is based on the principle of non-aggression. Here are some of the issues that I believe in very strongly. These are issues that I think conservatives and liberals can’t deal with consistently.

• Oppose war propaganda, military interventionism overseas and mass-bombing. Ban nuclear weapons!
• Oppose the abuse of prisoners and the threats to our liberties that result from war.
• Oppose regulations, licensing and taxes that oppress ordinary Canadians and business owners.
• Oppose the criminalization of speech and other victimless crimes.
• Oppose the surveillance society and National ID card proposals.
• Stand up for property rights as the right way to run our own lives – as an alternative to environmentalist and health tyranny.
