Hi, I’m Alan Mercer, and I’m running in Scarborough-Rouge River for the Libertarian Party of Canada.
Please visit our website at libertarian.ca.
As a Libertarian, I believe that liberty is the highest political end, and that Canadians need greater economic and personal freedom.
In the current system, government dominates our lives through taxes and regulations.
I believe pollution should be controlled by enhancing property rights.
Instead, governments have presented Carbon Dioxide as a threat. Whenever you burn fuel for your home or vehicle – or breathe out – you’re disrupting their Global Climate Control Dictatorship. They say human beings cause global warming, they say that‘s bad, they say Kyoto is going to stop this. Do you really believe all this? Do you have a choice?
As a libertarian, I would end the war on drugs. Alcohol prohibition led to an escalation in violence and empowered criminals. Drug prohibition does the same.
So victimless crimes should be removed from the Criminal Code. Police and courts should be focused on making criminals accountable.
As a libertarian, I believe in restorative justice, in requiring criminals to compensate victims.
The PM wants to ban hand-guns, but the government’s role should be to help us defend ourselves, not leave us defenceless.
I oppose any more plans for national ID cards, mandatory biometrics and internet surveillance.
I oppose the criminalization of opinions.
Our military should be strengthened, but a policy of non-intervention would protect us from terrorism.
In my opinion, there is no excuse for the existence of NATO, which was founded to oppose Communism, but which has been used to bomb Yugoslavia and Afghanistan.
I question the morality of dropping bombs on innocent people and their homes in these wars.
I have a serious problem with the cases of torture with which the Canadian government has been associated.
We need to condemn torture, and the use of secret prisons.
Canada needs to stand for the humane treatment of prisoners, respect for due process and habeas corpus.
I believe that Canada should free up our society at home and open up trade with the world.
If you want to run your own life, vote Libertarian on January 23rd. Thank-you.
