Recommended: real questions for all candidates on real issues (Canadian federal election)
Update: October 7, 2015
I think people should ask these questions (or similar ones) of all candidates and all parties, big and small. (And anyone else relevant who needs challenged, such as members of the media).
I’ll update these and add more questions as I go. Civil comments are welcome.
1. TPP
As with NAFTA but even more so, I hear, based on the TPP’s leaked investment chapter, that international tribunals will decide whether Canadian laws are valid and make the government pay up when foreign corporations complain. Do you agree with that? Also, if you are an incumbent, have you been ALLOWED to read the SECRET TPP? Which parts of the TPP do you agree with and which do you disagree with? Will you please discuss this during the election? I’m concerned that there will be a loss of industries and jobs overseas and a decline in wages and standard of living. Do you have this concern? What about Internet freedoms and moderate Canadian copyright laws? I hear this might be obliterated by the TPP? How do you plan on voting with respect to the TPP when Parliament votes on it?
2. United Nations Agenda 21 (1992), Agenda 2030, Sustainable Development Goals. Do you know about these UN documents? Do you think that these are legitimate institutions that represent Canadians democratically? Do you agree with all of the goals in these documents? Have you supported the years and years of NGO and government local implementation of “sustainability” goals through public private partnerships and the increase in communist-style planning and the erosion of property rights? Is the world supposed to be run by UN-based NGOs? Are professional activists and “stakeholders” supposed to have more input than each individual citizen? Is there a problem with big corporate foundations and huge private, international environmental lobbies funding United Nations goals and mixing these up with policies that are supposed to be produced by democratically elected national governments? Is there something wrong with this picture?
3.“Climate Change” and carbon taxes
Do you suport carbon taxes? Do you oppose them? Do you believe that the earth’s climate has changed due to carbon dioxide emissions? Is carbon dioxide a pollutant in your view? Do you not think that volaconos and forests emit more carbon dioxide than humans and industry? What is your specific evidence for believing that human industrial activity and basic human needs has affected the climate at all? Please cite studies and documents. Do you support a tax on carbon? Is it a good idea to tax people on energy, since energy is needed to heat our homes in the winter and to keep our businesses going and hospitals going? Would we be able afford such taxes? We won’t be able to afford our cars? Will we be required to live in a “Smart Growth” UN-style “Smart City” and use transit and bicycles only? Is it really a good idea to make us pay for living and breathing, being made of carbon ourselves? Every process of combustion produces water vapor and carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is necessary for plant life. Do you agree with these statements? If so, do you still consider carbon dioxide a pollutant? If you are acting like a closet climate skeptic, and you don’t believe the earth has warmed (has it been warming?) or that tornadoes and forest fires never existed before the 19th century, why are you not publicly rejecting the whole climate change campaign?
4. Bill C-51, civil liberties, torture, etc.
I thought Canada was supposed to be a free country and have certain values about the right to fair trial, etc. Do you think that, maybe, 9/11 and subsequent events have been used to justify the destruction of our rights and freedoms.
5. Free speech. Over the years, why did you and/or the party you are associated with either vote for or allow the expansion of the Criminal Code “hate speech” section on various trendy subjects that are intended to prevent people from freely discussing serious topics involving the re-engineering of our society by corporate foundations and United Nations NGOs (same thing)? Do you plan to go along with every politically correct, thought-control campaign that comes along?
