Against Discouragement
by Lew Rockwell, LewRockwell.com, August 9, 2003
…By dealing in the world of ideas as opposed to the world of power, he [Ron Paul] is on the right side of history. It is not, finally, power that determines the course of history, for power must finally submit to something that is far bigger, namely, ideas…
The Anti-Pleasure PrincipleThe “food police” and the pseudoscience of self-denial
by Jacob Sullum, Reason.com, July, 2003
In the Northeast they call it “soda.” In the Midwest they call it “pop.” In the South they call it “coke.” At the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), they call it “liquid candy” — and they don’t mean that as a compliment…
I agree with his main point. But those consumers who don’t worship technology or feel comfortable with particular technologies like food irradiation – whether their feelings are sanctioned by science or not – should also feel free to express their discomfort to producers and buy accordingly.
A Politically Correct War?
Condi Rice says you’re a ‘racist’ if you don’t support the ‘liberation’ of Iraq
by Justin Raimondo, Antiwar.com, August 11, 2003
America, said John Quincy Adams, “is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.” Any attempt to export liberty at gunpoint would “involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assumes the colors and usurps the standard of freedom.”
Rice Explains Why You Should Support the Occupation
by Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr., LewRockwell.com, August 11, 2003
…Let’s see how this might work [Rice’s analogy]. Just as the civil rights protestors resisted the police, Iraqis are resisting the U.S.? No, that’s not it. Just as the segregationist resorted to violence, including most notoriously blowing up the church in Birmingham, the US is bombing and killing in Iraq? No. that’s not it. Just as blacks had to fight for voting rights, Iraqis fight for the right to select leaders in their own country and not have them imposed by a powerful elite? No, that’s not it…
Critics of US policy are racist, says Rice (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2003/08/09/wirq109.xml&sSheet=/news/2003/08/09/ixnewstop.html&secureRefresh=true&_requestid=52784)
by David Rennie, news.telegraph.co.uk, August 9, 2003
…Miss Rice was questioned about her role in approving the president’s State of the Union address, with its now infamous claim that Iraq was seeking uranium in Africa.
She expressed remorse for the episode, saying she had read a top-secret national intelligence report that expressed doubts about the uranium connection “cover to cover, a couple of times”….
America silences Niger leaders in Iraq nuclear row (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;$sessionid$O23ZNMT4HC5TBQFIQMGCFF4AVCBQUIV0?xml=/news/2003/08/03/wwmd03.xml)
by David Harrison, news.telegraph.co.uk, August 3, 2003
…It follows The Telegraph’s exclusive interview with Hama Hamadou, Niger’s prime minister, last week. Mr Hamadou said that the Niger government had never had discussions with Iraq about uranium and called on Tony Blair to produce the “evidence” …
But They Know More Than We Do
by John J. Dwyer, LewRockwell.com, August 8, 2003
…Upon such falsehoods were we, the people of America, persuaded to support the sacrifice of our young people’s blood, our nation’s treasure, and the slaughter of uncounted Iraqi soldiers and civilians…
Junk economics: The theory of the nice state still exerts much influence in political, academic and business circles (http://www.nationalpost.com/financialpost/story.html?id=FE74FAE9-BF63-43AB-B324-2EA731E1BE9A)

… in the process or redistribution, the state becomes more and more dangerous. As French political scientist Bertrand de Jouvenel put it: “The more one considers the matter, the clearer it becomes that redistribution is in effect far less a redistribution of free income from the richer to the poorer, as we imagined, than a redistribution of power from the individual to the State.”…
