Ontario COVID deaths – Toronto Star article in May: pandemic expediency comes with a cost
Rosie DiManno: Canada has been spared the horror of temporary morgues, but pandemic expediency comes with a cost
Toronto Star | May 16, 2020
This article is from a mainstream newspaper but provides insight into the new arrangements and the results:
The body is moved from the long term care home quickly.
Quickly might mean as soon as within an hour of death, whether the person dies at home, in a nursing facility or in a hospital. That has been jarring for families, with scarcely time to grieve in the moment before making arrangements.
Totally abusive, like the whole situation.
Medical certificates of death are now being issued electronically and directly by coroners, directly to funeral homes, eliminating the need to collect paper copies from hospitals
There are many points to this subject described in these articles (see also this one and this one).
These changes were supposedly explained by the government’s belief that the bodies would be piling up.
