I noticed the following statement from February 17, 2021:

MEMBER’S COMPENSATION

The Speaker (Hon. Ted Arnott): Before I ask for orders of the day, upon reflection, I have to inform the House that the matter of members’ compensation and salaries is a matter of statute; and notwithstanding the fact that the House has just now, through unanimous consent, agreed to reduce the salary of the member for York Centre to $500 a week, and because this falls into the matter of the statutes of Ontario, I will have to consider this overnight and provide a ruling tomorrow on the orderliness of what the House has done.

So I don’t know if that that vote was put into effect or not, but I think it was part of the retribution for the positions taken by Roman Baber, the MPP for York Centre.

As per media reports (January 15, 2021):

Roman Baber, MPP for the Toronto riding of York Centre, was booted from his position in the PC [Progressive Conservative government] Caucus on Friday morning just hours after publicly posting a statement opposing provincial lockdown orders.

He is now running for the federal Conservative Party leadership:

“I don’t believe there’s anyone in the race who was willing to speak out against lockdowns or vaccine passports until recently,” he told The Canadian Press.

“I did not hesitate to speak out against lockdowns and mandates and passports when it was politically incorrect and when it was challenging politically to do so.”

A petition on February 16, 2021 states some truth relating to the conditions created by COVID-19 policies:

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Ms. Peggy Sattler: I have a petition to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario and it reads as follows:

“Whereas there is overwhelming evidence to show that paid sick leave significantly reduces the spread of infectious disease, promotes preventive health care and reduces health care system costs; and

“Whereas 60% of Ontario workers do not have access to paid sick days, and therefore must sacrifice income to stay home if they are sick; and

“Whereas low-wage and precarious workers who can least afford to miss pay are the most likely to be denied paid sick days; and

“Whereas employers benefit when sick workers can afford to stay home, limiting the spread of illness to co-workers and customers, and allowing workers to recover faster; and

“Whereas during an infectious disease emergency, it is unreasonable and dangerous to public health to make workers choose between protecting their communities and providing for their families; and

“Whereas mandating employers to provide paid sick leave through the Employment Standards Act ensures that workers have seamless, uninterrupted access to their pay; and

“Whereas the COVID-19 pandemic has left many small businesses hanging by a thread, and transitional financial support will help these businesses to pay for sick leave for their employees during the pandemic;

“Therefore we, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to immediately pass the Stay Home If You Are Sick Act to provide workers with 10 permanent sick days (seven of which are paid) without the requirement for doctors’ notes, and an additional 14 paid sick days during an infectious disease emergency, so they can follow public health advice and keep our workplaces and our communities safe.”

The following petition was presented on November 17, 2021:

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OVERSIGHT

Mr. John Fraser: This petition was sent to me by Charles Love of Kitchener.

“Petition to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:

“Re COVID-19 Command Table to Appear Before the Select Committee on Emergency Management Oversight.

“Whereas the Select Committee on Emergency Management Oversight was struck with a mandate to provide Ontarians with the government’s rationale for extending the COVID-19 emergency orders;

“Whereas the orders have been extended three times since the committee was struck, most recently until November 21;

“Whereas Ontarians expect transparency from their government;

“Whereas Ontarians deserve to hear what advice the Premier and his government are being given, when that advice was given and the evidence that underpins the recommendations;

“Whereas Ontarians should hear directly from members of the COVID-19 command table and be given the opportunity to ask questions about their advice and recommendations;

“Whereas the Premier shall designate, as is within his power, members of the COVID-19 command table to appear before the Select Committee on Emergency Management Oversight in the form of a public hearing to provide a brief presentation on the advice provided to the Premier and his government, followed by questions from members of the committee;

“We, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:

“To demand the Premier designate members of the COVID-19 command table to appear before the Select Committee on Emergency Management Oversight in the form of a public hearing at the next scheduled meeting.”

I agree with this petition and I’m affixing my signature to it.

So, going full circle back to Part 2, that covers the relevant petitions I could find as of this date.

Overall, it is disappointing, but obviously most of the MPPs have been part of the censorship of contrary opinion. They ignore these types of concerns from their constituents and pretend they don’t understand, etc.

There are several MPPs who are likely to assist with rights-oriented petitions at this time. I don’t know how things will be after the next provincial election. Hopefully better?

All we need is for people to speak their minds and share information with others. We need to prevent dictatorial policies from continuing and escalating. Let’s build some confidence in ourselves and each other. Speak up. Inform others.
