Canadian Vaccine Documents – Introduction – Part 1
INTRODUCTION AND CONTEXT
The website for the Government of Ontario includes Ontario’s Publicly Funded Immunization Schedules which links to the following pdf document: Publicly Funded Immunization Schedules for Ontario – December 2016 [1]
This is an example just from one Canadian province as of 2016, but other jurisdictions probably have their own schedules posted.
This schedule directly affects you and your children, so it is worth being aware of the details for each vaccine.
This chart lists the different types of vaccines to be administered at different stages of life and in special situations.
Referring to one of the charts, the “Routine Schedule: Children Starting Immunization in Infancy,” the Ages across the top are: 2 Months, 4 Months, 6 Months, 12 Months, 15 Months, 18 Months, 4-6 Years, Grade 7, 14-16 Years, 24-26 Years, ≥34 Years, 65 Years [1].
And the “Vaccines” down the side are:
- DTaP-IPV-Hib = Diphtheria(D), Tetanus(T), Pertussis(aP), Polio(IPV), Haemophilus influenzae type b(Hib)
- Pneu-C-13 = Pneumococcal Conjugate 13
- Rot-1 = Rotavirus
- Men-C-C = Meningococcal Conjugate C
- MMR = Measles, Mumps, Rubella
- Var = Varicella
- MMRV = Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
- Tdap-IPV = Tetanus(T), diphtheria(d), pertussis(aP), Polio(IPV)
- HB = Hepatitis B
- Men-C-ACYW = Meningococcal Conjugate ACYW-135
- HPV-4 = Human Papillomavirus
- Tdap = Tetanus(T), diphtheria(d), pertussis(ap)
- Td (booster) = Tetanus, diphtheria
- HZ = Herpes Zoster
- Pneu-P-23 = Pneumococcal Polysaccharide 23
- Inf = Influenza

But what about the actual products being used locally? You can get closer to the answer by going to the Canadian federal government website.
Canadian Immunization Guide Canadian Immunization Guide: Part 1 – Key Immunization Information Page 13: Canadian Immunization Guide: Part 1 – Key Immunization Information – Recommended Immunization Schedules. Updated: July 2016. Table 1 to Table 7 list the types of vaccines to be administered at different stages of life. This is similar to the Ontario schedules.
The actual vaccine products approved for use in Canada are listed on the following page in Table 1 and Table 2:

To obtain detailed information–a product monograph–for each product, use the Government of Canada Drug Product Database [4] [as of August 1, 2022, this link isn’t working, but higher level page is working: https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/drugs-health-products/drug-products/drug-product-database.html – “Search the Drug Product Database” is broken, guess it is temporary.
