This incident happened in 2006, a long time ago. The documentary referred to is: The Truth About Climate Change. A clip from the film is dated October 22, 2006: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9ob9WdbXx0.
If I can recall the name of the program I attended and the host, I will add that. I don’t think it was The Passionate Eye.
We were all volunteers in a very small political party. Currently I am not involved with the Libertarian Party but I was glad to have spoken out often in the ways that I did. I have a lot of respect for my past colleagues. I don’t mind taking knocks for this incident. Coherent counter-arguments are welcome also.
Personal actions matter. Some days I wake up with regrets about situations years ago in which I failed. This happened to me today again, and I feel it may be of value to share this banal and depressing story with others for the first time to get certain points across.
The first main point to try to illustrate is that we are living in a world in which malevolence and deception attempt to dominate and deliberately weaken us.
The second main point is about the need for values and personal integrity. I am not a judgmental person. It’s not good enough to condemn. Everyone could use a push. Everyone could use a lesson or a reminder. The community has a role. The individual has a role. These two elements are both essential–the Community and the Individual–they can uphold each other or they can fail each other.
We are all in this world together and we don’t survive its hostile forces unless we have expectations of ourselves and others. These expectations are called values and principles–they need to be taught, they need to be learned, they need to be exercised–in order to survive.
Contrary to what some teach, values are not arbitrary. They are not about making up arbitrary rules and imposing them on others. They are “higher” than that. We could refer to God or we could refer to Nature. Values originate from our desire to be consistent with reality. They have been written down for a long time in different ways, however imperfectly.
Some human beings actively oppose these rules through society’s institutions of media and education because they see themselves as being in a superior, privileged category. They want to do whatever they want–to other human beings–to disable them and enslave them. Their doctrine is that might makes right. They don’t want to reason honestly. They want to mislead you with a good show. And this is what makes this world such a difficult place. That is why Evil sometimes appears to be a personal force–because it almost seems like an inevitable tendency among us–to one degree or another. And that is why the Lord’s Prayer was removed from schools in my opinion. It encapsulates the real issues that we just end up postponing until it’s too late.
The CBC was showing a climate change documentary starring David Attenborough. They were presenting it in front of a studio audience of invited guests in Toronto. The Libertarian Party of Canada had been invited to send representatives. The local activist, Jim, called me up and asked me to go. I had had experience already as a candidate speaking to the media and speaking in front of campaign audiences. I went to the event in downtown Toronto fully prepared to speak up when I was called. Outside the door, while audience members were lining up on the sidewalk, one or two people challenged me about my views. I’m sure someone suggested that big oil was paying me money (not realizing that big oil funds climate change propaganda). I expressed my naive view at the time that even if climate change was happening because of human activity, it doesn’t follow that taxes and other restrictions should be imposed on us.
We were let in to the studio lobby and I signed in with the other guests, the security guard noting that I was with the Libertarian Party. So we go upstairs, and the first thing many of us do is use the washroom. But I think this was my first mistake even though a Member of Parliament, a guest, Bill Something was standing right there in front of me drying his hands. I think he was with the minority Conservative government at the time, but I suppose he could have been a local Liberal MP Bill Graham.
We rushed to the studio. There were rows of seats already filled up as soon as I got in the door. How can so many people be seated so quickly? I was directed to the “overflow” area off to the side with a few others. i forget the host’s name–he was a star CBC TV news journalist. Basically I just collapsed into my chair, grateful to not have to be part of the audience who would be asked questions. I felt I had no choice. I am a quiet sort of person most of the time, and normally I have to force myself to make speeches. Once I am speaking, I feel much more confident. There is nothing wrong with having a shy or quiet personality, but I took the easy way out and just sat there.
It was clear to me–I wouldn’t be able to prove this to anyone else–that the host was occasionally signalling me indirectly. He knew I was there. He probably didn’t recognize my face. but he would hover over us occasionally and he made a gesture with his phone making a joke about the Libertarian Party and making one or two off the cuff comments like that. But I didn’t stand up or come forward. I had decided to bow out. I wasn’t in the main studio audience. I had been excluded. I left it at that. I blamed myself for being “late”. Whatever. Could they have found another seat for me in the main area? Probably. I didn’t try. It was packed full from what I saw. At the time it didn’t occur to me that anything underhanded had occurred with how there were so many people in the overflow. I assume that is how they avoid being short of an audience in the main seats. I should have identified myself at least but I didn’t.
And boy, I was surprised by the movie in so many ways. I found it shocking. I felt like gritting my teeth throughout the whole thing. There was David Attenborough hovering over a living-room floor, worried about the little lights that stay on with the stereo equipment. His tone was relatively moderate at the time. He felt that we could do something to reduce climate change by changing our lifestyles. But there it was. Pure deceptive propaganda.
Point 1. The argumentation for carbon dioxide emissions leading to warming or climate activity was non-existent. There were computers crunching numbers and flashing colored lights. I listened very carefully and I did not hear any kind of evidence of a mechanism that I could relate to.
Point 2. The graphics portrayed big black sooty images of carbon dioxide building up over each person’s house as if carbon dioxide was a toxic, deadly menace emitted by wasteful, nasty consumers. Carbon in carbon dioxide is not black. It is invisible and colorless and clean. I knew from my science education at high school and university how photosynthesis works and how plants require carbon dioxide in order to live. I knew that humans and animals expel carbon dioxide when they breath. I knew that all forms of combustion produce at least water vapor and carbon dioxide along with impurities–but that carbon dioxide was a clean, odorless, non-toxic, non-polluting and life-sustaining gas. But the graphics represented it as this noxious black soot of a build-up over each person’s house. So that’s a lie. That’s deception. And I remember that very clearly.
And I never really got over it that professionals would promote the idea that carbon dioxide is a pollutant, and that they would subtly allow the minds of school children–and the general public– to associate carbon dioxide with soot and smog. This is just corruption. I came across this indoctrination in a later political campaign when a teenager expressed this to me. Water vapor is a much more prevalent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide and nobody calls water vapor a pollutant.
I don’t recall anyone else there saying anything remotely similar to what I would have said.
I had something to say and I didn’t say it. It was boiling up inside me. I should have raised my hand–even from the overflow area–and made my points–for the benefits of others watching television later–all those people who were deceived by that presentation with all the cheerleaders in the audience. I could have done that. I was angry. I was intimidated. I was shocked. I gave in to cowardice. I gave in to timidity. I let people down. On that day, I didn’t contribute to the uphill battle everyone is going to have to deal with–as we have had years and years of people–young and old–being indoctrinated with this message.
And what’s going to happen because we haven’t done enough to counter these lies? People are going to pay. Human beings are vulnerable because of age and illness. There are always more deaths in the winter–this is reality–every winter has more deaths than during other seasons. This is a fact of life even without all this. With efforts to reduce carbon emissions and to tax us for using carbon fuels, more people will want to turn the furnace off sooner in winter. They will turn the heat down. More people will die of illness. The cost of services will go up–the cost of fuel and gasoline will go up. People will not all make it to work as often as their cars break down from a lack of maintenance. They will not all be able to keep their homes where they live in the country. Food costing more means that people will buy less food or poorer quality food or other products they need. They will cut corners in so many ways that will make their lives harder–and this will affect their family members also who try to help them. This is the simple logic of carbon taxes. How hard is it to sell such a state of affairs to people? A lot of time and effort has gone into this.
At the time, I didn’t know about the statement by the oligarchy’s Club of Rome think-tank–on page 115 of the First Global Revolution, that they came up with “global warming” along with other excuses as a means to make humanity unite into a world government by seeing itself as the enemy. This was the Club of Rome’s assigned project–to LIMIT GROWTH.
I found out a lot more as time went on and put things together. Agenda 21 was a document created in 1992 by the United Nations–an organization created by the same oligarchy. The same event passed the first climate treaty. The theme of Agenda 21 is sustainable development.
I know what these terms really mean. Someone thinks there are “too many people” and they have already taken steps to see the numbers go down.
Here is David Attenborough in 2018 (https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/10/david-attenborough-warns-planet-cant-cope-with-overpopulation/) explaining about overpopulation and not eating meat and reducing carbon emissions. We are beings that emit carbon because we consist of carbon! Plants thrive on carbon dioxide gas. Combustion of fuels always emits carbon dioxide–and combustion keeps us from freezing to death.
He, like other elite mouthpieces, just has to smile and speak softly, and everything he says is true?! He has all sorts of recommendations for us in the statements he makes over and over — in his work about people, not about wildlife–his real job is about telling us there are “too many people.” This is an old message: that the world is overpopulated. People have heard this mantra all their lives from many sources in the popular media. It is a persistent message. There will never be any substance or truth to it. Try me. It is an old, imperialist message from the British Empire–so it has an aura of “science” about it.
It is an agenda that targets most of us. I’m sorry to have to deliver this message. There is a reason for why things are going crazy with new doctrines right and left about gender and constant wars. There are reasons why the people who have power want to reduce our standard of living, and why there are suppressed concerns about vaccines and about genetically modified foods and about the propaganda delivered that targets diet and gender identity and ethnic or national identity, why there is so much talk about censoring “hate.” There is a reason why 9/11 and other excuses have led to mass surveillance and the erosion of rights, freedoms and civil liberties. There is a reason for legalizing euthanasia in Canada and other countries and selling it as a right and convenience instead of actually helping people to live healthier and longer lives. There are reasons for all the attacks on basic identity and promoting Brave New World policies that prevent the formation of families.
So this is how we let each other down–by avoiding and hiding from the truth–when it counts. I can’t convince you all at once of everything I am saying. I gave an example of deception. I pointed to other associations and to the main message. It is too big. You have to stand back. You have to get your brain in gear and maybe start asking some questions sometimes and making some statements of your own. Maybe it is your role to educate others–not some celebrity. And you need to get on your feet sometimes when you don’t want to. Here are my expectations for myself and for my fellow human beings–those of you who can understand some of the message here. Don’t let each other down.
