Mysterious numerology in January IMF speech
Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the IMF, speaks at The National Press Club
The National Press Club | January 15, 2014
At the beginning of Lagarde’s speech, she riffs on the numbers 7 and 2014, 1914, and the 70th anniversary of Bretton Woods, and so on. I’m not sure if there’s a hidden message or not.
I would only add a couple of points. She mentions the lunar calendar, so the 7th month in that case is September-October (“sept” means 7). 7 is also July, which turned out some significant events. Also, when she refers to the G7 and the G20, I can’t help thinking of the G77.
Lagarde talks about “common solutions to common problems” (starting around 25 min 30 in the above video), including debt and problems that cross borders, such as disease. In any case, the speech is interesting just because of references to the IMF’s history and role.
