Orwellian Australian attempt to silence criticism of carbon taxes (2012 story)
Note that this carbon tax was repealed in 2014.
Aussie Gov Says They’ll Fine Anyone Who Blames Carbon Tax For Price Increases, Despite Carbon Tax Causing Price Increases
www.informationliberation.com – May 27, 2012
This is a totalitarian measure against the free speech of business owners and employees in order for the Australian government to protect their carbon tax from criticism. Even casual statements are suppressed. Very few businesses are likely to bother taking the risk that they can “prove” a price increase is due to the carbon tax.

“SHOPS and restaurants could face fines up to $1.1 million if waiters or sales staff wrongly blame the carbon tax for price rises or exaggerate the impact.“
Family slugged with ‘carbon tax fee’ for funeral news.ninemsn.com.au – July 9, 2012
An employee made an insensitive but possibly accurate explanation.
So, just like in totalitarian countries (are they any different than what we have to live with?), they have to deny:
The carbon tax doesn’t impact on our prices whatsoever . . .
. . . I can categorically state that in no circumstances have our fees increased due to the carbon tax . . .
The law makes sure that everyone gets the authorized “truth”. Fear leads to “truth”. Isn’t that amazing?
Making a living in our schizoid society is often portrayed as selfish, and it’s easy to demonize businesses that seem to be part of the problem to people at their most vulnerable moments–and maybe some of them are part of the problem–we’re all part of the problem to some degree. I think it’s understandable to not to like funeral homes and to question how much they charge.
When I went over it originally, the above version of the story was edited. The original story has the important point about the government speech suppression: ‘Even the dead don’t escape the carbon tax’: Heartless cemetery charged Australian family £40 during funeral because rules changed day AFTER man died
“The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said it would willing to investigate the claims.
“Climate Change Minister Greg Combet said it would be ‘reprehensible’ if any cemetery was taking advantage of grieving families by overcharging them for funerals””
But somehow it’s OKAY for climate oligarchs building new international bureaucracies to “take advantage” of people using new taxes.
Many practical and essential freedoms (the right to make a living included) – including freedom of expression – are taken away using the excuse of regulating businesses as if it’s okay to target businesses (run by individuals) who are trying to compete with huge corporations. Other examples of this in Canada have been “do not call” and anti-smoking laws. And, in general, whether we’re employees or independent business owners or government employees, all of us have been trained and indoctrinated to not have too many opinions most of the time–because of fears that we might lose our licenses or lose our job or be audited. Can you call it “democracy” when most people are too afraid or too busy to express opinions on anything that matters?
