What is True?

This site is for truth-seekers.
One of the themes I intend to study and comment on is alternative theories about human origins and ancient history. I am skeptical about some conventional history and science – I have always questioned the theory of evolution for example – and would like to take a look at the arguments and evidence from the perspective of ancient texts and current discoveries with a free and open mind.
Another theme is cryptozoology because this also relates to what is not yet known about life in our world. What other forms of life are there that share this world with us? What is there yet to discover? With esoteric subjects like these and others, I want to take a scientific approach and look for evidence, first or second-hand.
Another theme I want to deal with is truth in terms of religion, authoritarianism and dogmatism. Truth-seeking got me into trouble! It led me to be mentally trapped in a cultic belief system when I was young. If anyone would like to discuss this topic because they feel trapped by a belief system, or if they know someone who is, feel free to contact me. Maybe discussing it will help in some way.
When I become dogmatic now, it’s about my belief in freedom and independence. Thinking for yourself is very important. You need to protect your self – especially your mind – from those who would abuse you and take advantage of you. This is all wrapped up in the issue of personal integrity. Understanding rational morality and ethics is therefore very important.
We need to be able to evaluate and make judgments about people and ideas and what we see, hear and read, and not accept everything someone says, especially if we are researching spiritual and philosophical teachings. If in doubt about something, hold on to your doubt. Doubt is good! It is NOT so important to make decisions about particular questions. If you haven’t made up your mind, fine! The important thing is to stay independent. You don’t need to make up your mind about anything except that your life matters, how you treat others matters, and how you treat yourself matters.
Speaking of freedom, politics and conspiracy are other key topics. I’m libertarian and pro-peace, but at this site I want to focus on areas generally outside of politics, because politics tends to take over the discussion. I might link to other sites when politics comes up.
As a teenager, I was turned off by dogmatic science and by society’s rejection of objective morality and this unfortunately led me to dogmatic religion. And I had to get out of that! Maybe the insight gained was worth the trouble or maybe too much harm was done to my life. The cost of making these mistakes in life is high.
Just because I couldn’t accept a scientific theory or couldn’t agree with my society’s anti-values does not mean that I should have jumped into another false and oppressive belief system. That was a false choice and my mind felt trapped into choosing between the two systems as if there were only two.
I believe there is truth to discover, but there aren’t easy answers to every question. We shouldn’t just believe without reason and evidence, and we should be able to change our beliefs to fit reality better when new information comes along.
Over time, I became very critical of the Bible and religion because of different circumstances, and I felt relieved and much happier. So learning about truth is now something that is much more enjoyable. The truth is out there – some of it can be discovered – but it’s not found “the easy way” by listening to a cult leader.
However, there is life-and-death truth. And the truth that I will assert dogmatically is that your life matters and you need to build up and defend your true self. You need to keep your mind free by learning as much as you can about the world and always questioning any dogma that doesn’t make sense to you.
STOP THE WAR!
