Statement by Ontario government from November on health care vaccine mandates
Health Care Vaccine Mandates Stopped in Ontario Canada
What Is the Web Talk | November 3, 2021
First, my sense is that the Ontario Health Minister still speaks as if the government can do whatever it wants when it feels like it (based on “cases” or whatever). They’ve created the precedent of authoritarianism using story lines they sell to the public as plausible. So what else could future governments do on a whim using the propaganda techniques they’ve demonstrated worldwide?
The title of the video isn’t really correct, because as she says, she leaves it up to individual hospitals to have their own mandates. I remember clearly that vaccine mandates in hospitals (and LTC homes) intensified throughout the winter after this announcement.
For example, according to this report from December 21, 2021, weeks after the above statement, Brantford General Hospital introduced a requirement for visitors to show proof of vaccination. So did many other hospitals based on news reports at the time.
As of March 30, after looking at their website, it appears that they no longer have this outrageous requirement.
This report from March 22 (recently) goes through who in Ottawa, Ontario is keeping vaccine mandates and who is dropping them. Notice that it mentions Long Term Care homes who were still maintaining the requirements. The point is that these are still “mandates.”
This is the policy page by the Ontario government which mandated COVID-19 vaccinations for Long Term Care Home staff and visitors (dated February 10, 2022). Notice the highlighted statement at the top:
The Minister’s Directive on Long-Term Care Home COVID-19 Immunization Policy was revoked effective March 14, 2022. The requirements in this directive no longer apply and are included below for reference only.
(Here is another article about this from December 30, 2021.)
As mentioned in the March 22 article cited above, many LTC homes are still maintaining these vaccine requirements for staff and visitors–which is coercing a medical treatment in violation of domestic and international law.
I’m not sure how much they have pressured the elderly LTC residents (and hospital patients) to take these injections over the last two years. It would be good to have more perspectives about that.
Also, I’m not sure how many health care workers and emergency workers have been allowed to return to work by hospitals and municipal governments. What has happened with them and others who have lost their jobs or who have not been paid is a major violation of fundamental rights.
