The goal is understanding reality vs. unreality. Use critical thinking. Put observations to the test. Remove contradictions. Communicate what you have learned to others.

Gene Odening has an interesting way of explaining the goal of our civilization’s elite, which is a totalitarian “squaring off” or standardization of the world (which reminds me of Revelation 21:16 and the enormous cubical dimensions of the symbolic city).
