Afghan forces and coalition helicopter gunships attacked a suspected Taliban hideout in southern Afghanistan, triggering a fierce battle that killed 41 militants, a provincial governor said on Saturday….
Taliban forces have stepped up attacks on Afghan and coalition forces since announcing last month they had launched a spring offensive….
Four civilians were also killed, residents said…
Thousands of NATO-led troops from Britain, Canada and the Netherlands are due to deploy in the south where the militants are mostly active.
The Canadian government and its forces should not be in Afghanistan. The government being propped up is not going to last. The Taliban did not attack Canada and they did not attack the U.S. either. Like the article says, “U.S.-led troops overthrew the Taliban government in Kabul after its leaders refused to hand over al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden…” At least that’s how the story goes. Listen, Afghanistan is not Canada, it’s not our country. Canada is opening itself up to greater conflict and casualties in order to prop up a foreign government. It’s not going to lead to greater stability and a reduction in terrorism at all.
