International trade in human body parts
Human corpses harvested in multimillion-dollar trade www.theage.com.au – July 17, 2012 – International Consortium of Investigative Journalists
“A grisly trade in human body parts leaves relatives grieving and some recipients at risk of life-threatening disease
“On February 24, Ukrainian authorities made an alarming discovery: bones and other human tissues crammed into coolers in a grimy white minibus….
“What the security service had disrupted was not the work of a serial killer but part of an international pipeline of ingredients for medical and dental products that are routinely implanted into people around the world…”
My view of this subject a few years ago was naive – I thought it was just a matter of a few critical organs and voluntary consent. But bodies are being “harvested” without the consent of family members, and tissues are even being used for cosmetic reasons.
People really have to rethink what they are doing. The profit motive driving this trade, legal or not, is incredible. With human life degraded in these ways, we are headed into a terrible future. People need to restore respect for the dead.
“It’s illegal in the US, as in most other countries, to buy or sell human tissue. However, it’s permissible to pay service fees that ostensibly cover the costs of finding, storing and processing human tissues.
“Almost everyone gets a piece of the action.”
By the way, the article keeps mentioning people who are concerned about identifying parts, but I’m sure that’s just the next stage of tagging all biological and genetic “resources” as commodities, which is what human beings have become.
