5/31/2020 – On a couple of issues here and there in these posts, I don’t really have the exact same views any longer about the State, I avoid false dialectics. It’s worth considering all sides of some historic events also.  The thing that stands out for me is how there was growing totalitarianism at the time, e.g. “zero tolerance” in education. I remember how this came out of nowhere, in the 1990s I think from the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. Then the Liberals got rid of it supposedly, but probably just some elements of it that suit the false dialectic of “tough on crime” vs. “soft on crime” (https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/expelling-bullies-a-last-resort-mcguinty-says/article4181696/) as totalitarianism marches forward–two steps forward, one step backwards, trying to appease the public after the latest change. My impression of high schools in the early 2000s is that the behavior became much more controlled compared to the rowdy early 1980s. But “lockdown drills” continued as per post 9/11 (I believe) policy–two per year (lockdowns should only be for prisoners). Better off homeschooling if at all possible–it would have been better to do that 40 years ago also.
